Awesome Turtle Picture #010

These made the internet rounds not too long ago, but I feel inclined to show them off again for anyone who might have missed them.

Pro artist Dave Rapoza has been doing a series of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles portraits and they could not be more gorgeous/frightening/kickass. For anyone who thinks the characters from the Fred Wolf cartoon or Playmates toyline were "stupid" and "couldn't possibly work" in a cartoon or comic today, I ask you to shut up and check these bad boys out.

You can find more of Dave Rapoza's incredible work at DaveRapoza.com or at his DeviantArt account. And if they're still available, you could even buy some prints!

Here are a few of my absolute favorites:

These are great, and it's the little details that really sells them, like Raph's wounds and the Shredder having red eyes. The extra effort really helps ground some of the more ridiculous characters.

My favorite it definitely Baxter Stockman, whose shirt collar and bow-tie are still impeccably neat. Just because you're a hideous Jeff Goldblum monster is no reason to be unprofessionally dressed.

I was especially impressed with the way he distinguished each turtle's personality from one another. He did all supporting characters first so I was afraid all his turtles were going to look like clones of each one with different bandana colors. But his Mikey is the most appealing of the bunch, IMO. He somehow preserved his playfulness in spite of the fact that he STILL looks like something out of a horror movie!

And Rapoza's April O'Neil is the only piece of TMNT fan art I've seen that's gotten over 175,000 views! Impressive, indeed.
